Future models - Aston Martin - Vanquish - VolanteAston Martin launches open-top Vanquish VolanteTwo-seat Vanquish Volante runs front V12, rear drive, 344km/h v-max, fabric roof27 Mar 2025 ASTON Martin has marked the 60th year of its Volante lineage of convertibles with a new Vanquish Volante two-seat ragtop that it says maintains the purity of the open-top sportscar concept while reaching deep into the 200-miles-per-hour club with a v-max of 344km/h.
The super expensive Volante (meaning steering wheel) convertible exemplifies what a classic sportscar should be as it is configured with a front engine, rear wheel drive and “K” folding soft top, the massively powerful V12 engine tucked under a long sculpted bonnet.
Selling alongside a coupe version, the Vanquish Volante is available to order now from a production run of under 1000 examples a year and due for delivery in Q3 this year.
The current Aston Martin Vanquish two-seat ‘super tourer’ is listed from $737,000 excluding on-road costs and options, with the previous-generation Vanquish Volante commanding a seven per cent premium over the tin-top could result in this newcomer nudging $790K + ORC.
Aston Martin says the new flagship convertible “brings unprecedented drama, power and speed to the category”.
Competition for the Volante may come from the likes of Bentley’s Continental GTC Mulliner ($692,200 + ORC) or Ferrari’s 12Cilindri Spider ($886,800 + ORC).
Aston is confident its Vanquish Volante will cover off any competition in the performance stakes thanks to its “class-leading twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 engine that offers 614kW and 1000Nm of torque”.
The Gaydon-based car-maker claims these outputs deliver the imposing convertible from 0-100km/h in a scant 3.4 seconds en route to a v-max of 344km/h.
Power is fed to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF auto located within the rear axle for optimal weight distribution and incorporates the same rear E-differential (E-diff) seen on the Vanquish Coupe that is capable of transitioning from fully open to 100 per cent locked in 135 milliseconds, providing unprecedented “bandwidth” and benefits.
It combines with the latest electronic stability control technology to significantly improve dynamic capability.
The model features a bespoke suspension tune designed to account for the unique weight distribution, but AM says the secret to unlocking its full potential lies in the new Bilstein DTX dampers which allow outstanding levels of wheel control within each drive mode and also the ability to provide far greater distinction between the individual modes than has ever been possible in the past.
Chassis and body of the Vanquish Volante comprise bonded aluminium components to support all dynamic systems, enhanced in this instance to deliver more focused and engaging dynamics with optimised underbody stiffening providing a 75 per cent increase in lateral stiffness over the brand’s previous flagship convertible.
Aston says the Volante is “quite simply the fastest, most powerful open top series production Aston Martin to date and, alongside its coupe stablemate, the fastest, most powerful front-engine production car on sale today”.
“No other car combines such extraordinary performance with such a svelte yet purposeful form. Its position in the market at the very pinnacle of ultra-luxury high performance is unique, and there are few better ways to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic Volante name with the announcement of its latest example.”
Drawing on the coupe’s sleek design, the convertible is unencumbered with excess weight, helping making it the “crown jewel” in a model lineage extending back 60 years from the first and little-known Short Chassis Volante of 1965 that comprised design elements of both the convertible DB5 that preceded it and DB6 Volante that succeeded it.
Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark said: “For 60 years, Aston Martin Volantes have defined the art of elegant, sporting, open-top motoring. With its stunning looks and outstanding V12 engine producing more power than any other front-engine production car on sale, Vanquish Volante has taken this philosophy to an entirely new level.
“At Aston Martin we are proud to be doing such justice to our heritage while, as the unprecedented performance of the Vanquish Volante shows, keeping our eyes firmly focused on the future.” ![]() Read more12th of February 2025 ![]() Aston Martin delays EV program, againFirst Aston Martin BEV will now arrive ‘before 2030’, five years later than planned27th of January 2025 ![]() 2025 Aston Martin DBX 707AMR23 reviewHulking Aston SUV shocks the senses with supercar performance, but it’s comfy tooVanquish pricingMotor industry news |
