BYD Atto 2 confirmed for Australia

Small segment, all electric BYD Atto 2 SUV locked in for Q4 arrival Down Under

11 Jun 2025

BYD has announced that it will launch its Small segment SUV, the Atto 2, into Australian dealerships from the fourth quarter of this year, continuing the brand’s expansion in the new energy vehicle sector.

As a Small segment SUV, the BYD Atto 3 will compete alongside entrants including the Chery E5, GWM Haval Jolion, Hyundai Kona, MG S5, Toyota Corolla Cross, and up to 15 others.

Built upon BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Atto 2 utilises cell-to-body technology the Chinese manufacturer says increases the chassis’ torsional rigidity by 32 per cent while ensuring “peerless performance, safety, and efficiency”.

From launch, the BYD Atto 2 will be offered in two trim grades – Essential and Premium – each featuring a 51.1kWh Blade battery pack and single permanent magnet synchronous motor. In both cases, power and torque output is rated at 130kW and 290Nm.

The front-wheel drive Atto 2 delivers drive via BYD’s eight-in-one powertrain which integrates the motor, reducer, motor controller, on-board charger, DC-DC converter, high-voltage distribution unit (PDU), battery management system (BMS), and vehicle control unit (VCU).

BYD says the technology greatly reduces NVH levels while enhancing reliability.

Like many vehicles in its class, the BYD Atto 2 is suspended by a combination of Macpherson strut front and torsion beam rear arrangement.

Visually, the BYD Atto 2 is characterised by LED headlighting and brightwork surrounds at the front, smooth lines and short overhangs in profile, flush door handles and a floating-style roofline – replete with panoramic sunroof – and at the rear, a full-width light bar and spoiler.

Moving inside we find equipment highlights including a multifunction steering wheel, 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, synthetic leather upholstery, V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality, keyless entry and start, and a choice of 10.1- or 12.8-inch infotainment arrays, depending on grade.

As elsewhere in the BYD portfolio, the Atto 2 features a comprehensive list of standard safety technologies including six airbags, adaptive cruise control, AEB, and, depending on grade, a 360-degree camera system.

“With its exciting looks, superlative technology, and eminent versatility, the Atto 2 promises to be a game-changer in the small-size SUV segment,” said BYD Australia general manager Wing You.

“The Atto family of vehicles is expanding in Australia, and we’re confident this latest addition will be well received by local buyers.”

Full pricing and specifications for the Atto 2 will be announced closer to the model’s local launch later this year.
