HYUNDAI Motor Company, through its Chinese joint venture Beijing Hyundai, has launched its all-new Elexio electric SUV, a model the manufacturer says is tailored specially for the Chinese market.

Despite being Chinese-centric, the model is also confirmed for arrival into the Australian market early next year, promising over 500km (WLTP) of driving range from a single charge.

Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the Elexio features a “bold and premium design clean lines, restrained proportions and crystal-square headlights”.

Feature highlights are said to include a 27.0-inch windscreen instrumentation and infotainment display, Cyber Eye head-up display, a 506-litre cargo area, 46 storage areas, an eight-speaker Bose audio bundle, and integrated health monitoring and fatigue detection systems.

Hyundai says the Elexio’s chassis, damping, and braking systems are engineered for optimal performance in both city and long-distance scenarios. Features like Family Brake Mode and active side-bolsters “enhance passenger comfort while reducing driver fatigue”.

Safety is provided by a 720-degree armored body structure containing 77.5 per cent high-strength steel content, nine airbags, and automatic pop-out mechanical door handles for emergency access.

Power is stored in an 88.1kWh lithium battery that may be charged from 30-80 per cent in approximately 27 minutes. DC charging capacity and power and torque values are not provided at this point in time.

“For the Chinese market, Hyundai leveraged the proven success of its EV-dedicated E-GMP platform and integrated localised Chinese technologies to successfully launch Elexio,” said Hyundai Motor Company head of China business division Ickkyun Oh

“This is a dedicated EV tailor-made for Chinese consumers, and the first model developed by Hyundai under the guidance of our ‘In China, For China, To Global’ strategy.

“Hyundai has evolved beyond a traditional automotive enterprise to become a global high-tech company dedicated to providing intelligent mobility solutions.

“Hyundai Motor promises to keep pace with the development of the Chinese automotive industry and meet the high expectations of Chinese consumers.

“The company pledges to take firm root in the Chinese market and has full confidence in its future in China.

Hyundai Australia said the Elexio will arrive locally in early 2026 with more details to be provided closer to launch.
