Future models - MG - S5Melbourne Show: Important MG S5 EV debutsMG S5 EV to vie in popular medium SUV segment as early specifications revealed4 Apr 2025 By MATT BROGAN MG MOTOR'S all-electric S5 medium SUV made its Australian public debut at the Melbourne Motor Show last weekend, the model due in showrooms “imminently” and could prove a sales hit given it competes in the most-popular segment will likely offer strong value for money.
The newcomer will launch Down Under in two trim grades, and with the choice of 49kWh or 62kWh battery sizes.
According to MG Motor Australia, the S5 EV will offer a driving range of up to 515km and a 150kW DC fast charging time of as little as 19 minutes (from 30-80 per cent), while AC charging is possible at up to 6.6kW.
Common across all variants will be maximum power of 125kW and torque of 250Nm from a single rear-mounted electric motor; MG Motor quotes a 0-100km/h time of between 8.0 and 8.6 seconds depending on configuration.
The SUV arrives on the same Modular Scalable Platform as the closely related MG 4 small hatch, promising generous cabin space and new technologies, including standard wireless Apple CarPlay, iSmart remote connectivity app, a powered tailgate (Essence grade), and light and dark interior themes.
A choice of seven paint colours – Black Pearl, Camden Grey, Champagne Golf, Diamond Red, Dover White, Piccadilly Blue, and Sterling Silver – will be available.
“We have been very excited about bringing the MG S5 EV to Australia for some time,” said MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao.
“This is the first new model we are introducing to Australia this year, with several more to follow. It is one of the vehicles that will be important to supporting the continued growth of MG in Australia.
“We are committed to delivering leading value in every segment we enter. Australian families will know that MG delivers this, no matter their life stage.”
Revealed globally in March of this year, the MG S5 EV measures 4476mm in length, 1849mm in width, 1621mm in height, and 2730mm in wheelbase. Cargo volume is listed at 453 litres with the rear seats in place, or up to 1441 litres all told.
As with other MG Motor models sold locally, the MG S5 EV will be backed by a 10-year/250,000km warranty.
