VW Amarok Dark Label returns in 2026

MY26 updates for VW Amarok MY26 updates herald return of Dark Label and W600 variants

16 Mar 2026

VOLKSWAGEN is placing considerably more emphasis on V6 power with the revision of its Amarok ute range for 2026.

In what is described as “customer-led enhancements”, the MY26 Volkswagen Amarok line-up marks the return of the Dark Label grade alongside a fresh take on the Walkinshaw-enhanced Amarok W600.

The duo joins a more streamlined Amarok range for 2026 that comprises just five grades and two engine choices – both backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive.

While pricing is yet to be announced, Volkswagen Australia has confirmed that available grades for 2026 include the entry-grade Style 2.3 TSI452 petrol and V6 diesel-powered Style 3.0 TDI600 (now with optional 20-inch alloy wheels), PanAmericana 3.0 TDI600, Aventura 3.0 TDI600, Dark Label 3.0 TDI600, and flagship W600 3.0 TDI600.

The current Amarok range is available from $55,490 through $82,990 plus on-road costs.

Volkswagen Australia says its Dark Label variant introduces a “bold new personality” to the Amarok line-up, responding directly to customer appetite for a more expressive, premium-looking dual-cab ute.

It will offer just 200 examples of the variant nationally for MY26, the grade featuring black-accented styling cues and premium touches including 20-inch Bendigo alloy wheels, IQ Light LED-Matrix headlights with black bezels, darkened tail-lights, a black sports bar and matching side steps, rear bumper, door handles and mirrors, X-design front bumper in black, a blackened front skid plate, matte black roof rails, spray-in tub liner, black tonneau cover, and Dark Label decals.

The Dark Label is joined by the next instalment of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' partnership with Walkinshaw Automotive Group, the Amarok W600.

While further details on this special edition grade “will be communicated later this year”, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand director Nathan Johnson says the variant will offer a more distinctive look, more focused drive experience, and will become the best-equipped variant in the range.

“The MY26 Amarok is focused for the fans (with) V6 confidence, clearer choice, and two standout hero editions in the Dark Label and Walkinshaw (W600). This is Amarok at its most desirable,” he said.

Volkswagen’s Amarok remains something of a slow-seller for the German importer, with just 759 examples delivered to date in 2026.

The figure places the Amarok in eleventh place within its segment (PU/CC 4 x4), well behind rivals that include the twin-under-the-skin Ford Ranger (7362), Toyota HiLux (5315), Mitsubishi Triton(3154), Isuzu D-Max (2992), BYD Shark 6 (2166), GWM Cannon and Cannon Alpha (1886), Mazda BT-50 (1570), and others.
