New models - BMW - X3 - dieselDiesel returns to BMW X3 rangeBMW X3 40d xDrive slated for Q3 introduction, priced from $108,900 + ORC30 Apr 2025 By MATT BROGAN BMW will return diesel power to its X3 range later this year when the 40d xDrive arrives priced from $108,900 plus on-road costs.
Competing with the likes of the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, the X3 40d xDrive will accompany existing petrol-powered 20 xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive, and the X3 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid variants to bring “even further choice to Australian customers”, says BMW.
The BMW X3 is also available as a purely electric offering, with further details on the iX3 available here.
The new diesel variant features 40-volt mild hybrid electrical assistance in concert with a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine to offer 210kW/670Nm – or 15kW/50Nm more than its xDrive30d predecessor.
BMW says the additional power and torque enable a quicker 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 5.4 seconds, or 0.4 seconds faster than before.
Alongside a made-over appearance inside and out, the BMW X3 40d xDrive is set to mirror the specification found in the X3 30e xDrive, including standard M Sport Package and 20-inch alloy wheels, blue-painted brake callipers, and a fixed panoramic roof.
Elsewhere the variant offers tri-zone climate control, acoustic glazing, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive damping, BMW Iconic Glow grille, keyless entry and ignition, M headliner in Anthracite, M Sport leather steering wheel, parking assistance with 260-degree camera and reversing assistant, power adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate, and self-dimming mirrors.
Technology and connectivity highlights include a six-speaker audio package, DAB+ digital radio reception, head-up display, Live Cockpit Pro with 14.9- and 12.-3-inch curved displays, remote software (OTA) updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a wireless phone charging pad.
Finally, the included Comfort Package sees the X3 40d xDrive equipped with active front seat ventilation, seat heating for the first and second (outboard positions) rows, a heated steering wheel, luggage compartment net, rear privacy glass, and manual sunblinds for the rear-side windows.
Advanced driver assistance systems come as standard on Australian-delivered BMW X3 variants. Headline elements include front collision warning, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, and Driving Assistant Professional.
