Available to order from 9 April, the Seal 6 is available from $34,990 in Sedan format and from $39,990 for the Touring, the former in Essential spec’, the latter in Premium.
The Toyota Camry rival features BYD’s DM 5.0 Super Hybrid powertrain technology comprising a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor.
Electrical power is stored in a 10.1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery in the case of the Essential grade and 19.0kWh LFP pack for the Premium.
All-electric range is listed at 55km for the Sedan and 100km for the Touring.
BYD Australia has not provided power and torque outputs for the pair, but GoAuto understands these to be 130kW and 163kW respectively.
The Seal 6 Sedan measures 4840mm in length, 1875mm in width, 1495mm in height, and 2790mm in wheelbase, the Touring varying only in height at 1505mm tall. A drag coefficient of 0.25Cd is listed.
Cargo capacity for the Sedan measures 491 litres – or 33 litres less than the Toyota Camry – while the Touring offers 670 litres, expanding to 1535 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Equipment highlights for the range include an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch infotainment array, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a “suite of connectivity and convenience features designed to enhance everyday driving”.
Both variants are fitted with seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, child presence detection, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving functionality.
“The Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring continue the BYD commitment to offer Australians a range of advanced electric and intelligent plug-in vehicles that suit their needs and lifestyles,” said BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins.
“We will continue to grow our local line-up as we help all Australians transition to cleaner, more efficient mobility without sacrificing performance, practicality, or value.”
