New models - Geely - StarrayGeely confirms Starray EM-i PHEV pricingTwo-variant line-up undercuts related EX5 electric SUV prices by up to $500018 Sep 2025 By TOM BAKER GEELY Auto Australia (GAA) has confirmed final pricing for its new Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV), positioning the midsize SUV as one of Australia’s most affordable electrified offerings.
The confirmed prices follow an earlier industry leak that had suggested the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 rival could open at $39,990 plus on-road costs. Instead, that will be the price of the top-specification Inspire grade, with the base Starray EM-i Complete priced at $37,490 + ORCs.
A range of incentives will be offered to early customers to drum up initial demand, with Australians purchasing the SUV before the end of November 2025 receiving a complimentary Mode 2 charging cable ($385 value), premium paint ($600), and a choice of discounted financing or three years’ free servicing. Buyers who place an order for a Starray EM-i before the end of September 2025 will also be offered a further $1000 discount in a super-earlybird deal.
The sharpened numbers mean the Starray EM-i is likely to rank as the second-cheapest PHEV SUV on sale in Australia, behind only the Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid that is currently sold for $39,990 driveaway.
“We are never looking to be the cheapest car in the segment,” a senior GAA spokesperson told GoAuto.
Final negotiations on pricing are understood to have continued right up to the Starray EM-i’s Australian launch, with earlier reported numbers believed to have reflected an interim stage of negotiations between Sydney and Hangzhou Bay, China.
The Starray EM-i will arrive in Geely’s 47 Australian retail outlets from late September 2025, joining the closely-related EX5 battery electric (BEV) crossover in showrooms. Both models share the GEA platform and have similar dimensions, though the PHEV is marginally longer.
There is a meaningful gulf in pricing between the PHEV and BEV, however, with the Starray EM-i Complete costing $3500 less than its EX5 counterpart, while the Inspire variant undercuts the BEV by $5000.
Technical specifications underline the distinction between EX5 and Starray EM-i. The former has a single front electric motor providing 430km (WLTP) electric driving range, whereas the Starray EM-i conjoins a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder and 11-in-1 hybrid transmission to its 160kW/262Nm motor.
Premium unleaded (95 RON or greater) is required to run the Starray EM-i on combustion power while its 17kWh (usable) lithium iron phosphate battery can be topped up via 6.6kW (AC) power. It can also be fast-charged (DC) at up to 30kW speeds in as little as 20 minutes for a 30-80 per cent replenishment.
Total driving range for the PHEV is said to be 943km (WLTP) while electric-only running is sustained for 83km.
The Complete grade ($37,490 + ORCs) features LED lighting all-round, 18-inch alloys, a 15.4-inch touchscreen with Flyme operating system, 10.2-inch driver’s cluster, and satellite navigation. Wireless CarPlay is fitted from launch with wireless Android Auto coming over-the-air in Q1 2026.
Base models also include vinyl seating, six-way power adjustment for the driver (four ways for the passenger), heated front seats, climate control, a six-speaker stereo, 360-degree camera, and rear parking sensors—plus 6kWh vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharging functionality.
Stepping into the Inspire grade costs $2500 more but adds plentiful luxe spec including 19-inch wheels, a power tailgate, opening panoramic glass sunroof with shade, 13.4-inch HUD, 16-speaker premium stereo, cooled front seats, driver’s memory, ambient lighting and wireless charging.
Buyers can also opt for premium paint ($600, included until the end of November 2025), and for Inspire cars, an ivory white interior colour option is available at no cost. A black cabin is standard for both trims.
Warranty coverage extends to seven years for the vehicle, and eight years for the high-voltage components—both with unlimited kilometres. Scheduled servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km; for customers using the Geely dealer network up to seven years of roadside assistance is offered.
