Japanese luxury marque to add NX 450h+ Luxury grade from September, growing its PHEV rangeGallery![]() Click to see larger images 8 Jul 2025 By MATT BROGAN LEXUS is set to expand its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) range with the upcoming addition of the NX 450+ Luxury grade.
Available from late September, the variant will be priced from $84,500 plus on-road costs, bringing PHEV technology to a wider range of luxury SUV customers wanting to make the transition towards low-tailpipe-emission luxury motoring, says Lexus.
Equipment highlights for the variant include heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way adjustment, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition, a wireless smartphone charger, leather-accented upholstery, panoramic view monitor, a powered tailgate, and what Lexus describes as a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies.
According to the Japanese luxury importer, the expansion of the NX PHEV offering comes on the back of a reduction in demand for the 2.5-litre petrol NX 250 Luxury in Australia, which after existing stock is depleted will no longer be offered.
The NX 450h+ Luxury will soon become the third PHEV offered by Lexus Australia following the arrival of the RX 450h+ Sports Luxury in April, providing what it says it “greater choice for customers as part of the brand’s multi-pathway approach” toward greener vehicle offerings.
“Lexus is dedicated to offering customers a range of powertrains to suit their needs,” said Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas.
“Our plug-in hybrid technology offers the compelling blend of zero CO2 tailpipe emissions mobility for shorter everyday use, while still allowing longer road trips without having to stop to charge.
“Expanding PHEV availability to include Australia’s favourite luxury vehicle shows our commitment to offer luxury and performance to more customers.”
Like the flagship NX 450h+ F Sport variant, the NX 450h+ Luxury is powered by the combination of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and dual electric motors to provide 227kW to all four wheels. Lexus quotes a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds.
Paired with an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery, the NX 450h+ offers up to 87km of electric-only driving range.
The air-cooled AC charging system uses a 6.6kW on-board charger which can charge the battery in as 2.5 hours when using a 32-amp (DC) charging current, and around 7.5 hours via a 10-amp domestic outlet.
Full specification will be announced closer to the arrival of the Lexus NX 450h+ Luxury in September.
