New models - MG - S6 EVMG S6 takes aim at Model Y, Sealion 7New MG S6 EV priced from under $50k driveaway, arriving in dealerships this month28 May 2026 MG MOTOR has launched its new MG S6 EV mid-size electric SUV in Australia, entering one of the country’s most hotly contested EV segments with pricing starting from $49,990 driveaway.
Targeting rivals including the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 the new MG BEV arrives in dealerships immediately marking MG’s third all-electric launch in Australia this year at the same time expanding the Chinese brand’s rapidly growing EV portfolio to seven models locally.
Offered in two highly specified variants, the range opens with the single motor MG S6 EV Essence RWD at $49,990 driveaway, while the flagship dual motor Essence AWD is priced from $56,990 driveaway.
The sharp pricing places the MG S6 EV well below key rivals, undercutting both the Tesla Model Y rear-wheel drive and BYD Sealion 7 Premium.
MG Motor Australia marketing director Dimitri Andreatidis said the model broadens the company’s EV strategy.
“The MG S6 EV plays a key role in that story, delivering refined comfort, smart technology and long-term value for families who want to step confidently into the future of electric mobility,” he said.
Built on MG’s latest EV platform, the MG S6 EV offers significantly more range and performance than the smaller MG S5 EV beneath it in the line-up.
The rear-wheel drive variant delivers 180kW, a driving range of 530km (WLTP), and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds; while the all-wheel drive model raises outputs to 266kW, range to 485km, and 0-100km/h acceleration to 5.1 seconds.
Although MG has not officially detailed battery specifications locally, overseas data confirms the SUV uses a 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack.
DC fast charging capability peaks at 144kW, allowing a claimed 10-80 per cent recharge in 38 minutes using a compatible 150kW appliance.
Both variants also include a heat pump, adjustable regenerative braking, and one-pedal driving mode.
Dimensionally, the MG S6 EV lands squarely in Australia’s core medium SUV segment at 4708mm long, 1912mm wide, and 1664mm high putting it close to the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 in terms of size.
MG says the model was developed specifically around family usability, combining practicality with a more premium interior presentation than earlier MG products.
The tech-heavy interior features MG’s latest dual-screen architecture, combining a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display
Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless phone charger, voice control, LED ambient cabin lighting, heated and ventilated vegan leather front seats, heated outboard rear seats, an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer, and connected iSmart app functionality.
Storage capacity is also generous the model offering a 581-litre rear boot, an 86-litre front storage compartment (67 litres for the AWD), and 1690 litres of total cargo capacity with rear seats folded.
Braked towing capacity is rated to 1500kg.
On the safety front the MG S6 EV scores the latest MG Pilot active safety suite, featuring adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, a 360-degree camera, and configurable driver assistance settings.
As with other MG products, the new SUV is backed by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with up to 10 years/250,000km service-activated extended coverage.
