Porsche expands 991 range with 4S variants

Citing strong demand for all-paw variants, Porsche adds new 4S models to 911 line-up

4 Jul 2025

PORSCHE continues to expand its 992.2-generation 911 line-up, adding three new Carrera 4S variants to sit between the Carrera S and the more powerful hybrid GTS options – and they are now offered in drop-top guises.

The newcomers double the number of all-wheel drive 911 choices, bringing the total to six, and Porsche claims its latest all-paw system offers “a significant boost in emotionality” compared to earlier models, citing a distinct rear-axle bias.

New Carrera 4S models include a coupe, cabriolet and Targa body style – the latter exclusively offered with all-wheel drive, as the renowned layout celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

According to Porsche, around half of Carrera S customers now opt for all-wheel drive, but the addition of a front differential does, of course, add cost to the 4S models compared with their rear-driven counterparts – to the tune of around $20,000.

The new 911 Carrera 4S models are now available to order in Australia ahead of deliveries later this year, with the coupe priced from $362,300, the cabriolet from $385,200, and the Targa from $389,400 (all excluding on-road costs).

Carrera 4S variants pack the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine as the Carrera S, producing identical outputs of 353kW/530Nm, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels.

In terms of performance, Porsche claims the 4S coupe will accelerate to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds, shaving two tenths off the Carrera S with which it it shares a 308km/h top speed.

This puts the new 4S Coupe 0.5 seconds off the pace of its upstream GTS sibling, which features Porsche’s new T-Hybrid powertrain to punch out a significantly spicier 398kW.

Porsche’s new 4S variants do score some GTS goodies, though, like bigger brakes consisting of 408mm front and 380mm rear rotors plus distinctive red callipers.

The Carrera 4S models also gain improved standard fare, beyond just the brakes, now featuring 20/21-inch staggered-fitment Carrera S wheels, rear-wheel steering, Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus system and a sports exhaust system to help the flat-six sing.

Inside, the 4S models score a leather package, Bose stereo system, automatically dimming and folding mirrors, wireless smartphone charging and safety features like adaptive cruise control.
