Volkswagen upgrades Tiguan, Tayron for 2026

Turning Assistant 2.0 now standard across Volkswagen Tiguan and Tayron line-ups

6 Nov 2025

VOLKSWAGEN has announced upgrades to the MY26 Tiguan Medium segment SUV and Tayron Large segment SUV that include Turning Assistant 2.0 technology among other changes.

The feature is now standard on the Tiguan and Tayron line-ups, and, to clarify, is said to enhance collision avoidance capability by detecting and reacting to oncoming traffic that’s about to turn towards the vehicle.

The ADAS also detecting and braking when the driver turns across oncoming traffic that’s driving straight ahead.

Several other detail changes have been made for model year 2026 (MY26) on these and other model lines including new aero covers as standard for the 20-inch Leeds alloy wheels on the Tiguan 195TSI R-Line.

They are intended to harmonise the look of the wheels to that of both the Golf R-Line and Touareg R-Line.

Addressing criticism of the ride quality on some Tiguan variants, smaller wheels have been fitted to the MY26 110TSI Life and 110TSI Elegance grades.

The previously standard 19-inch wheels are downsized to 17-inch Venezia on the former and 18-inch Napoli alloy wheels on the latter.

Ensuring recognition and for the first time, all MY26 Tiguan Elegance and R-Line grades are now equipped with illuminating VW emblems front and rear.

Unfortunately, VW has announced the popular T-Roc R will conclude production for MY26, “however it is anticipated that stock of the hottest 4Motion-equipped compact SUV will be available into the first months of next year”.

Described by itself as a “new model renaissance” Volkswagen’s 2026 rollout continues with the addition of the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid, both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) with over 100km of WLTP range on a single charge.

Volkswagen says this exemplifies its intention to offer customers the widest powertrain choice in the most popular segments.

“By the middle of next year, the Tiguan and Tayron will sport everything from 110TSI turbocharged entry value in five and seven-seat configuration, punchy luxurious and sporty 2.0-litre turbo all-wheel drive Elegance and R-Line (Tiguan only) grades – plus the sportiest 195kW/400Nm 195TSI R-Line range topper,” it said in a statement.

“Petrol turbo and PHEV powertrains will continue to be placed alongside the fully electric ID. 4 and ID. 5 mid-size SUVs – all in the most popular $45,000 - $75,000 price bracket.”
