Stellantis sales fall as demand wanes

Stellantis struggles continue as European and US demand drives Q1 sales down 9pc

15 Apr 2025

STELLANTIS said its first-quarter global shipments fell nine per cent to an estimated 1.2 million vehicles, with sales down in Europe and North America, and both its Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands in steep decline.

According to a Reuters report, North American shipments of Stellantis brands fell 20 per cent in Q1, reflecting what it says is lower January production because of extended holiday downtime, and an initial ramp-up of the updated 2025 Ram heavy-duty pick-up range.

Shipments in Stellantis’ European markets fell 8 per cent, with over 60 per cent of that figure due to “transition gaps” as new generations of small cars were rolled out, and the remainder from subdued interest in Stellantis-branded light commercial vans.

The group’s Maserati brand continues to face an uphill battle with global shipments down by a reported 48 per cent.

Stellantis recently hired McKinsey & Co. to assess options for its struggling Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands, including partnering with other companies to access new technology.

Global sales results from 2024 show Stellantis net profits are down 70 per cent.

Locally, Q1 sales Stellantis brands are equally dire.

Year-to-date sales of Alfa Romeo models total just 119 units, down 42.8 per cent on the same time last year; Fiat (including Abarth) 118 units, down 20.3 per cent; Jeep 529 units, down 27.5 per cent; Maserati 88 units, down 12.9 per cent; Peugeot 373 units, down 24.5 per cent; and Ram 1163 units, down 20.2 per cent.
