IT is great time to be in the market for a new large six-cylinder sedan. Even though the segment is being punished as buyers opt for more fuel-efficient cars the choice and value of the newer offerings is excellent. Just take a look at the VE Commodore and then cast your eye over the Mitsubishi 380. Both offer roomy, comfy family motoring. Toyota will join the fray within weeks too with the Aurion V6, completing a total revamp by car-makers of big-six motoring over the past 12 months. But arch-rival Ford is not about to let Holden – nor Mitsubishi and Toyota for that matter - grab all the limelight. To help hold off its rivals, Ford has just released its BF MkII Falcon. Does it cut the mustard?

BF Falcon XR6 Turbo
Released: October 2005
Ended: October 2006
Family Tree: FalconWHEN the revised BF range arrived all the focus was on the improved fuel economy – up 11 per cent depending on the model. The four-speed auto was improved and the silky ZF six-speed added new sheen to the lineup. The six-speed brought new levels of transmission refinement to the Territory and it was the same for the XR range. There were modest changes from the BA XR turbo to BF XR turbo, like new 17-inch alloys, revised front bumper and new trim and paint colours. The real news was the six-speed auto and the uprated performance brake package.
