PERHAPS the sleeper of the new Commodore range, buyers who wake up to the performance and value-for-money quotient that Holden’s Falcon XR6 competitor offers might be stunned by how competent a sports sedan the SV6 really is. Besides looking the part, the cheapest performance variant in the VE artillery also has the manners and dynamic mumbo to show just how fit a sedan it really is.

Commodore SV6 sedan
Released: August 2004
Ended: August 2006
Family Tree: CommodoreAs the only version of the VZ Commodore a European car enthusiast on a budget might consider buying, the 2004 SV6 offered the better of the two new Alloytec V6 engines, the 190kW/340Nm (335Nm from early ‘06’s Euro III update), mated to a fine five-speed automatic gearbox. But the rest of the SV6 was hampered by the ageing VT-based body and chassis, so – to true enthusiasts – this car never came close to deposing the reigning BA and BF Falcon XR6’s huge dynamic and refinement superiority.
