HONDA Australia equipped the family-sized Accord with a V6 for the first time in 1997. Overall, the car lacks charisma despite remaining a worthy contender in the junior prestige market. The Accord is reasonably big inside for a Japanese car and well fitted out, even at entry level. The V6 needs to be revved to give its best although it sounds as if it enjoys that sort of treatment. A four-cylinder is available for considerably less.

Honda Accord 5th gen
Released: Oct 1993
Ended: Dec 1997
Family Tree: AccordA quiet achiever in the prestige class, Honda's front-drive Accord brought Japanese quality, luxury and performance to compete with Audis and Saabs. The single camshaft, 4-cylinder 2.2-litre engine performed well, the 107kW version used in the VTi-S a little better.
