AN early mid-life facelift brings not only a new look for Mazda's already stylish all-wheel-drive CX-7 but also two distinct new engine choices at either end of the performance spectrum – a 2.5-litre non-turbo entry-level model (driving the front wheels only) and a long-awaited 2.2-litre turbo-diesel. Both offer much better fuel economy than the regular 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol models, and the diesel also provides excellent performance, but not an auto transmission. With lower prices throughout the range as well as an outstanding new price leader, Mazda's SUV should be even more popular than ever.

CX-7
Released: December 2006
Ended: October 2009
Family Tree: CX-7Introduced in late-2006, the all-wheel-drive CX-7 soft-roader was an immediate hit with buyers, who were won over by its stylish design combined with SUV practicality and Mazda quality. Launched with the choice of just one engine – an advanced direct-injection four-cylinder petrol unit developing 175kW of power and 350Nm of torque, driving through a six-speed auto transmission – the CX-7 came in two specification levels, the base model (called Classic from July 2007) and Luxury.
