PORSCHE has fired up its second-generation Cayenne, this time giving the luxury SUV a more sporty character and dispensing with some of the more rgged features, such as low range gearing. As well, it has added a petrol-electric hybrid version - the first in the Porsche range. A diesel - more fuuel efficient that the hybrid - is also offered, along with the performance variants, a V8 and V8 Turbo.

Family Tree: CayennePORSCHE released its first SUV back in 2003 on a platform shared with Volkswagen Touareg and later stretched to go under the Audi Q7., , Porsche aimed the Cayenne more at Range Rover and Mercedes Benz M-class rather than BMW X5, by equipping it with height adjustable suspension, locking differentials and deep low range gearing to give it go-anywhere ability. The original model was available with naturally aspirated and turbocharged V8 petrol engines to be the king of high performance off-roaders., , A mid-life upgrade early in 2007 saw edgier styling, bigger V8 engines and a V6 entry level model introduced. A road scorching GTS V8 and Porsche’s first diesel fuelled model also came in the later years of the first generation.
