SUBARU is taking a shot at the 4WD prestige station wagon market with its new six-cylinder H6 version of the Outback. It might be expensive for a Subaru, but it has the engineering credentials, the reputation for quality and plenty of standard equipment to make a good fist of challenging the so-far dominant Volvo in this segment. Surprising is that the H6 doesn't feel a lot faster than the 2.5-litre four-cylinder Outback. And that distant, distinctive "boxer" engine throb is becoming ever more distant.
