New models - MG - HS - Hybrid+MG adds HS hybrids to medium SUV line-upNational drive-away pricing from $43K for petrol-electric MG HS Hybrid+ medium SUV4 Jul 2025 YET another MG is about to arrive – the new HS Hybrid+ joining petrol variants of the medium SUV in September alongside the MG HS Super Hybrid PHEV.
It is a full hybrid HEV, not a mild hybrid or a plug-in and can run on its own electric power alone for short distances, ICE only, or can combine ICE and electric motors for enhanced performance and efficiency.
Available in Excite and Essence grades, national drive-away pricing for the new MG HS Hybrid+ is $42,990 and $46,990 respectively.
Competitors include Toyota’s RAV 4 2WD Hybrid from $42,260 + ORC, the Kia Sportage 2WD Hybrid from $46,450 + ORC, Kia’s Tucson Hybrid 2WD from $45,100 + ORC and the just-facelifted GWM Haval H6 hybrid from $40,990 drive-away.
Though sharing many components, features and specs with the MG HS Super Hybrid PHEV, the Hybrid+ also runs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine churning out 105kW and 230Nm in this instance, mated to an electric traction motor fed via a 1.83kWh battery that produces 146kW/240Nm for a combined output rated at 165kW/340Nm driving the front wheels.
The model consumes 95 RON petrol at a claimed combined rate of 5.2 litres/100km from a 55-litre tank for a theoretical 1050km range.
Inside is a clone of the HS Super Hybrid (and other new generation MGs) complete with dual 12.3-inch info screens and, for added functionality, the MG iSmart smartphone ap offers remote access/control of key vehicle features for journey planning and comfort settings on the go.
Other features of the iSmart system include lock/unlock functions, locate parked vehicle, monitor fuel levels and tyre pressures, set climate control before a journey and more.
The HS Hybrid+ weighs from 1656kg, has a braked towing capacity of 1500kg and rides on a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension with disc brakes all round behind 19-inch alloys.
MG Motor Australia says the newcomer “rounds out MG’s bold Hybrid vehicle strategy helping Australians make the switch to fuel-efficient, powerful advanced technology and further highlights MG’s commitment to putting cutting edge Hybrid technology within reach of more Australian drivers”.
Its arrival signals a firm shift of focus towards Hybrid+ and Super Hybrid from MG which has a number of other models available with the petrol-electric technology including the smaller ZS SUV and the MG 3 light hatch.
MG Motor Australia’s 10-year/250,000km warranty applies but the brand has recently imposed the condition that vehicles only qualify if serviced at an MG dealership.
“We’ve worked even harder with SAIC Group to have vehicles engineered specifically for demanding Australian conditions, said MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao.
“Ensuring our designers and engineers understand the unique needs of Australian drivers, we’ve helped them to create reliable, high-quality solutions like our Hybrid+ and Super Hybrid.
“We hear from local drivers that value for them means innovation without compromise – at prices Australians can afford. MG are holding or reducing MG OEM Prices and offering generous campaign driveaway pricing on all Hybrid+ and Super Hybrid models to empower Australian drivers to upgrade to a Hybrid, unlocking fuel-efficiency, power and performance for a driving experience like no other.
“I want to see MG using our presence and technical leadership to make advanced solutions, like Hybrid+ and Super Hybrid, accessible to more Australians around the country. This means models, suiting their lifestyle at every price point” added Mr Ciao.
