New models - Volkswagen - Tiguan - eHybridVolkswagen Tiguan, Tayron eHybrid PHEVs pricedPlug-in hybrid SUV duo to offer an electric-only range of up to 117km, says Volkswagen18 Feb 2026 VOLKSWAGEN Australia has announced pricing and details for its incoming – and more NVES friendly – Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid plug-in hybrid SUVs, with the duo scheduled to arrive in local showrooms during the second quarter of 2026.
Two versions of each will be available, the medium segment Tiguan 150TSI eHybrid Elegance (from $64,590) and Tiguan 200TSI eHybrid R-Line (from $74,550) with large segment Tayron 150TSI eHybrid Elegance (from $62,390) and Tayron 200TSI eHybrid R-Line (from $76,550).
Both eHybrid variants are positioned above their petrol-powered equivalents, with pricing reflecting the addition of electrified drivetrains and associated efficiency gains.
In hard numbers it means the Tiguan PHEVs are at a premium of $3000 over comparable 2.0-litre petrol versions while the Tayron PHEVs add $2000 apiece.
Not including a rash of much cheaper Chinese offerings, Tiguan PHEV will run up against other somewhat upmarket midsize SUV plug-ins including Mazda’s CX-60 PHEV (from $63,790), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (from $57,290), and the new Toyota RAV4 PHEV (from $59,575).
Cupra’s very similar Terramar VZe PHEV lists from $77,990 + ORC.
The larger Tayron PHEV encounters the likes of Mazda’s CX-80 PHEV (from $75,750), Skoda’s very similar Kodiaq PHEV (from $63,490), Kia’s Sorento PHEV (from $71,130), and again, a rash of Chinese offerings closer or the same in price including the newly launched Denza B5 PHEV (from $74,990).
Volkswagen says the Tiguan continues as its core five-seat offering, with a 490-litre boot capacity and a more compact footprint suited to urban environments.
“The Tayron sits above, offering increased interior space and a larger 705-litre luggage capacity, targeting buyers seeking additional practicality and family-focused packaging,” it said in a press release.
Further, the German importer says its new PHEVs “represent a key step in its local electrification strategy, offering extended electric-only driving capability alongside conventional hybrid touring range in the high-volume medium SUV segment”.
Both models use Volkswagen’s latest plug-in hybrid system that pair a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver combined system outputs of either 150kW or 200kW, depending on variant and reflected in their nomenclature.
A 19.7kWh lithium-ion battery provides a claimed electric-only driving range of between 113km and 117km on the WLTP cycle, positioning the SUVs among the longest-range PHEVs currently available Down Under.
Charging capability includes AC charging at up to 11kW and DC fast charging at up to 40kW, while combined fuel consumption is quoted at between 1.6- and 1.8 litres per 100km.
So-called “dead battery” range is not provided.
Both grades of each model will feature premium interior finishes, digital interfaces, and a full suite of driver assistance systems.
“The Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid bring meaningful electric range, flexible charging capability and everyday usability to Australian customers,” said Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Australia head of product Arjun Nidigallu.
Optional equipment across the range includes metallic paint ($800), premium metallic paint ($1100), and panoramic or standard sunroof options ($2100), while R-Line variants may be specified with a Black Style Package ($1500).
The Tayron Elegance also offers a Sound & Vision Package priced at $4200.
