FORD fans rejoice – a supercharged V8 has given the FPV GT much needed muscle.
The doughy 5.4-litre V8 is history, replaced by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that was developed by FPV for the considerable sum of $35 million.
Based on the Ford US Coyote all-alloy V8, the new engine has been boosted and substantially upgraded to produce a whopping 335kW and 570Nm in the GT.
That’s enough to sling it from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The rest of the car has effectively been left alone – apart from new-look wheels and a retro stripe kit – but the focus was on the engine.
FPV has introduced an entry level GS as a permanent member of the range and it gets a slightly detuned version of the same engine which produces 315kW/545Nm.
